Step 1

Check your child's milestone

Checklist

Disclaimer : These checklists are not a substitute for standardised validated developmental screening tools.

Does your child meet the milestones?
If yes, we rejoice with you!

If not, do not fear.
Let us take the privilege to walk you through the subsequent steps on what you can do.

Step 2

Find a service provider

What to look out for a service provider?

Evidence based framework approach + Clinical Wisdom :

  • Service provider should be using an evidence based framework approach when working with your child. The skill of the clinician is also important as it comes with experience. Most importantly able to build rapport with your child and family.

Safety:

  • Your child is valuable and precious, you need to know that they are in safe hands!

  • Child's therapists should not be overly aversive, or harshly punishing (e.g., hit or throws child to ground, etc).

  • An effective therapy session is when a therapist is able to build positive rapport with your child.

Expectations:

  • Our therapy classes requires many hours across long periods of time, particularly observed in the early stages of treatment.

  • Our therapy classes are not a magic wand and requires patience and time.

  • It does take a lot of work by people that are part of the child’s environment, which includes you to help your child reach his or her fullest potential.

  • Be careful of services that guarantee certain unrealistic outcomes as no one can proclaim with certainty what your child is able to do in the future.

  • You will see progress in most children undergoing educational therapy / social skills classes when provided with effective support and instruction. With that said, each child progresses at a different pace.

Data and documentation:

  • Providers should be able to summarize data in a way that you can understand for you to see trends that show if your child is improving or not. Also to provide you with skills to help maintain and generalize the skills your child has mastered at home or in the community.

Step 3

How can Empowered4Life help?

At Empowered4Life, we have successfully helped countless cases of children with autism and other special needs to achieve the different milestones / goals – including but not limited to social, academic, cognitive, play and functional skills.

We integrate scientific based evidence principals and frameworks such as the principals of ABA-PBS, social thinking, the findings of Dr. James Partington and Dr. Dan Siegel's theory of the whole brain child as our foundation to craft your child's program. We strongly advocate generalisation in our programs to translate skills learnt into more practical sense.

Our programs are tailored to your child's needs. At Empowered4Life, we recognise the differences in every child, and reconcile with the fact that there is no one program that will fit all. Our IEPs are also backed by BCBA.

We believe strongly in the use of positive reinforcements to motivate and modify unexpected behaviours to one that is prosocial.

We strive to work closely with parents (you), caregivers, and child’s community for both the welfare of the child and his/her community. This includes the process of setting goals for your child.

Educational Therapy

At Empowered4Life we see the importance of data collection. However, to not compromise the quality of sessions, we prioritize the progress of the child over data collection. With that said, Empowered4Life still collects functional data to track a child's progress and gives reports every 6 months to help parents track their child's progress.
